AN-28

LIGHT MULTIPURPOSE AIRCRAFT

First flight 1973

The AN-28 is a further development of the AN-14 STOL aircraft concept. The aircraft is designed to carry passengers, mail and cargo on local airlines. It can also be used for patrolling forests, aerial photography, geological survey, ice patrol, fish survey, training of paratroopers and operating as an ambulance version. The aircraft was serially built at the aircraft manufacturing plant in Mielec (Poland), where 170 aircraft were manufactured from 1984 to 1992.

Chronology

6th of August 1966 the Order of the Ministry of Aviation Industry regarding construction of the AN-28 aircraft was published.
29th of January 1973 the AN-28 aircraft equipped with TVD-850 engines made the first flight. Pilot in command Volodymyr Terskiy, flight engineer Valerii Mareiev.
23rd of April 1975 the AN-28 aircraft equipped with TVD-10B engines made the first flight. Pilot in command Volodymyr Terskiy, flight engineer Valerii Mareiev.
In October 1978 the Ministry of Aviation Industry adopted a resolution regarding construction of the AN-28 aircraft in Poland.
22nd of July 1984 the first production aircraft manufactured in Poland at PZL Mielec made its first flight.
In February 1986 AN-28 aircraft started regular passenger carrying operations.
7th of February 1986 the USSR State Aviation Register issued the Type Certificate No. 11-28 for the AN-28 aircraft.
