Unmanned aerial system (UAS)

Unmanned aerial systems is a segment fast progressing aviation field in the world. According to the forecasts of the Forecast International international agency, during the next 15 years, more than 121 million different UAVs to the amount of $ 133.5 billion will be produced in the world. UAVs are used in a variety of industries from agricultural activities (field spraying, etc.) and to arresting armed conflicts (for exploration, targeting, targeting high precision missiles, defining target co-ordinates, etc.). Unmanned aerial systems Antonov Company are developed from concept to full functional complex: "Horlytsia", "Strategic Unmanned aerial systems" and "Aerial Target System". Special airplanes based on the platforms An-132

The suggested An-132 airplane-based special versions have their peculiar features and advantages. First, this is a lower cost of the platform airplane, and besides, an effectively smaller consumption of fuel. In the aggregate, it results in much lower expenses for the airplane ownership, and maintenance throughout its life cycle. One more key feature of the An-132 is its high thrust-to-weight ratio which is very important for application in hot and high mountain conditions. As to its specification data, the An-132 is more adapted for operation from/into unprepared airfield network, and can be used almost with no limitations on unpaved, snow- and pebble-covered aerodromes. This feature allows the customer to flexibly operate the aircraft fleet, locating it away from base aerodromes thus providing higher battle efficiency and airplanes survivability. The An-132 has a lower cruising speed. However, in some cases this quality is desirable for low-altitude and mid-altitude patrolling, and for counter-terrorist operations, too. An-132-based special-purpose airplanes may become an optimum solution for the following projects which are proposed as:

Special airplanes based on the platforms An-148 and An-178

Let us review the most attractive qualities of the An-148 and An-178 airplanes in comparison with those of the An-132. First and foremost, these are higher values of cruising speed, range and a flight altitude. Such performance allow to respond more rapidly to any changes in the tactical situation, fast penetration into the patrol zone, and prompt escape from hazardous regions, and besides require less time for ‘treatment’ of essentially bigger areas. The said airplanes equipped with engines of higher thrust performance as well allow generating of essentially more electric power required for operation of special equipment. Therefore, functionality of such equipment will be considerably better. And, finally, these airplanes have bigger overall dimensions of the cargo compartment which allows not only a better arrangement of their special equipment and operators’ stations, but provide better cooling of working compartments. As far as the advantages of the An-148 are concerned, it has a smaller take-off weight therefore its operation is cheaper; it has a smaller fuselage cross section and shows a better base aerodynamics. The latter feature seems preferable if the long range and flight duration become the key requirements of the customer. A special-purpose airplane based on the An-148 platform can be the best solution for construction of a number of versions and may be offered to potential customers as follows:
